BEAR Tower Defense Early Game Tower Tier List

Best starter picks when Cheese and Coins are still tight.

Early Game Tier List

Your first ten waves on Lost Temple punish greedy buys. Cheese starts scarce, account Coins unlock only a handful of towers, and Quidz capsules feel miles away. This early-game tier list ranks BEAR Tower Defense units for that phase—before Hype Beast, max Psychic, or full Electrisam chains define your roster.

Use Best Towers Tier List for endgame targets and Anti-Air Tier List before pushing Haunted Mansion with Balloon Bobs.

What “early game” means here

Early game covers roughly:

  • Account level where Bear, Rockstar, and basic upgrades are your main Coin spends
  • In-match waves one through fifteen when Cheese Factory is a luxury, not a given
  • Solo or duo clears without VIP income perks or Capsule Luck mythic pulls

Puzzle payouts (Memory, Burger, Wire, Cowboy) can accelerate one run—but do not build a permanent strategy assuming perfect puzzle RNG every lobby.

S Tier — first investments

Bear

Bear is the safest first Coin unlock: reliable single-target damage against basic Bobs, straightforward placement on Lost Temple bends, and enough boss chunk power for early Chained Bob introductions. Upgrade damage before range unless a specific corner forces otherwise.

Rockstar

Rockstar clears grouped Bobs that would leak past Bear. Buy after one solid Bear upgrade or immediately if your lobby partner covers single-target. One Rockstar covering a long straight often out-DPS two half-funded singles.

A Tier — second-wave priorities

Cheese Factory (early cooperative)

In duo+ lobbies, an early Cheese Factory jumps to S-tier value even though solo players rate it A-tier. One teammate funds factory while the other buys Rockstar—shared Cheese snowballs upgrades for both. Communicate before wave three so you do not duplicate economy.

Electrisam (if unlocked early)

Players who capsule-roll Electrisam early get an A-tier crutch that stays S-tier late. If you start with it unlocked, prioritize one chain tower over duplicating Bear.

Buckethead (stall maps)

Buckethead helps learning lobbies where leaks teach pathing. Cheap stall buys time to afford Rockstar upgrades on long Chained Bob previews. Drop priority if you never leak.

B Tier — defer but do not ignore

Sam

Sam shines when the team already has DPS online—early solo players lack the burst to activate execute-style payoff. Unlock with leftover Coins after Bear + Rockstar.

Psychic (pre-upgrade)

Base Psychic without key upgrades underperforms Rockstar on pure Bob density for the Cheese cost. If you unlock it early from a banner, read upgrade breakpoints in Best Towers before funneling all Cheese into it.

C Tier — early traps

Hype Beast (un upgraded)

Hype Beast Early Game Pass owners may field it immediately, but without upgrade Cheese it can lose to a funded Bear. Treat un upgraded Hype Beast as C-tier until mid-match income catches up—then it jumps to endgame S-tier.

Duplicate DPS without economy

Second Bear before Rockstar coverage, or third single-target before anti-air planning, is C-tier decision making even if the tower alone is good.

D Tier — skip for now

Luxury collectors, meme placements, or towers needing mythic support that you do not own at hour one. Spend Quidz only after reading Best Towers—early Quidz pulls should target Electrisam or Psychic, not vanity picks.

  1. Bear — Learn last-hit timing and Chained Bob HP bars.
  2. Rockstar — Fix group leak points on Lost Temple.
  3. Cheese Factory — If you play cooperative regularly.
  4. Buckethead or Sam — Map-dependent; pick stall vs execute helper.
  5. Save remaining Coins toward Psychic / Electrisam goals on the best-towers list.

Adjust if a puzzle-heavy week rewards economy—Cheese Factory can move to step two in premade groups.

In-match Cheese spending rules

  • Wave 1–3: Place one damage tower covering the longest sightline; avoid selling unless misclick.
  • Wave 4–7: Add Rockstar or upgrade Bear tier-two before experimenting.
  • Wave 8+: Start anti-air planning if the map spawns Balloon Bobs—check Anti-Air before wave ten.
  • Puzzle spikes: Funnel bonus Cheese into the tower covering the hardest upcoming lane, not spread evenly.

Selling tax hurts early budgets—place with Getting Started pathing notes in mind.

Early enemies to practice against

EnemyEarly response
BobsBear single-target, Rockstar groups
Chained Bob (intro)Upgrade Bear damage; add Buckethead stall
Balloon BobsDelay Haunted Mansion until anti-air ready

Do not blame tower tiers when pathing leaks—fix coverage before copying a new meta list.

Game Passes in early game

  • VIP — Quality-of-life; does not replace Bear / Rockstar fundamentals.
  • Capsule Luck — Speeds Electrisam / Psychic pulls; still follow unlock order after you win units.
  • Hype Beast Early — Strong but Cheese-hungry; pair with cooperative Cheese Factory.

Free players reach the same Best Towers endgame with more Lost Temple grinds for Coins.

When to graduate from this list

Move to the full meta list when:

  • You clear Lost Temple consistently with zero leaks on standard difficulty
  • You own at least one A-tier economy or AoE tool plus single-target
  • You are ready for Haunted Mansion or Chained Bob challenge modifiers

Then read Best Towers for Quidz priorities and mythic timing.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What should I unlock first with Coins?

Bear, then Rockstar for group clears on Lost Temple. Add Cheese Factory early if you play cooperative lobbies regularly.

Is Rockstar better than Bear early?

They cover different jobs. Bear handles single targets and early Chained Bob chunks; Rockstar fixes grouped Bobs. Get both, starting with Bear.

When should I build Cheese Factory solo?

After your first damage tower is upgraded unless you premade and agree a teammate covers DPS while you fund economy.

Can I skip to Hype Beast with the Game Pass?

You can field it early, but upgrade Cheese costs still matter. Treat un upgraded Hype Beast as weak until mid-run income catches up.

How do puzzles affect early tiers?

Strong Memory, Burger, Wire, or Cowboy payouts temporarily boost towers you can upgrade that wave—usually Rockstar or your main single-target.
